The Border Wall
By Jaelynn Barberi
PENN- We need a border wall for many reasons. A nation must have borders the protect its citizens from illegal drugs, human trafficking, and criminals. Illegal aliens hurt our economy. An untold number of illegal aliens drain our healthcare system, our schools, and our jobs. They put additional strain on our cities and towns. They impact every aspect of American life. The cost to American taxpayers are in the billions every year.
Recent statistics show that under President Trump, illegal border crossings are down to approximately 76%, depending on who you listen to. Critics of the Trump administration say that illegal aliens are coming here primarily for work. The Homeland security administration has proven that statement to be wrong. Many illegal aliens are coming here to commit crimes and hurt the American people. Illegal aliens are filling up our correctional facilities. Our prisons are housing MS-13 gang members. Hardened criminals guilty of killing and raping American citizens, DUI’s, breaking and entering, unspeakable acts against children, armed robbery, and identity theft.
Congress is not doing their job. All of our politicians took an oath in office to uphold our laws and protect American citizens. To date, the 116th United States Congress is hell bent of destroying President Trump and his administration. They have failed their jobs in protecting our country, and our border. In January of 2019, Nancy Pelosi refused to give Trump more than $1.00 for his wall, preparing for a white house showdown over the border wall.
On Friday, April 5th, Trump visited the southern border amid growing crisis, and he declared that “our country is full.” “Whether it's asylum, whether it's anything you want, whether it’s illegal immigration, we can't take you anymore. Our country is full, our area is full, the sector is full, we can't take you anymore. Im sorry, it can't happen, so turn around - that's the way it is,” he said at a round table in Calexico, California, with law enforcement and immigration officials. Trump declared a national emergency on the border in February after Congress agreed to only a fraction of the $5.6 billion he had requested for the wall. It’s obvious that Congress does not care about the safety of the American Citizens. They just want power.
In October 2017, Trump had 8 different companies build prototypes on the border. They range in height from 18 to 30 feet high. They are mostly made of concrete and steel. Trump said he does not want a concrete wall, but instead “artificially-designed steel slats.” Just before the government shutdown, he tweeted an image of the design of his steel slat barrier. He said it is totally effective but at the same time beautiful.
