Matt Gaetz; Monster in Disguise OR Victim of Cancel Culture?

Written by Gillyan Christensen

In the weeks of headlining news, the beloved by the Right and despised by the Left, Matt Gaetz, is trending from his on-going scandal based on his encounters with women recruited online for sexual intercourse as well as one of them involving a 17-year old girl.

When looking into what Gaetz was involved in exactly, here is what we know. There was an open investigation that turned to closure regarding Joel Greenberg, former tax collector in Seminole County, Florida. After a formal charge with sex-trafficking and other counts, Gaetz’s came into light as a new theory from investigators with the belief that Greenberg introduced women that he paid for sex Matt Gaetz. The New York Times reviewed receipts from Apple Pay and other mobile payments showing Gaetz transferring funds to one such woman while Greenburg to another woman. This woman says that amongst friends, this funds exchange was for sex. Though it is not a crime to pay for an adults stay, meal, and transportation, researchers find it extremely hard to locate proof of money given in exchange for sex. Private investigators are working to determine whether Gaetz also had sex with the 17-year-old girl, and if it’s linked to Greenberg or anyone affiliated with Gaetz as a whole. The federal law in Florida prohibits giving a minor anything of value in exchange for sexual acts, and in the instance of violation, starts a 10-year-minimum, mandatory prison charge.

It is known that Matt Gaetz has denied such allegations on multiple occasions, claiming that these allegations were driven by political motive to “cancel” or “doxx” him at any cost for his reputation, “I have a suspicion that someone is trying to recategorize my generosity to ex-girlfriends as something more untoward,” states Gaetz when interviewed. His office also came to his aid claiming that “Matt Gaetz has never paid for sex”. Another individual to step to his aid is former President of The United States, Donald Trump, stating “Congressman Matt Gaetz has never asked me for a pardon. It must also be remembered that he has totally denied the accusations against him.” Though Trump was careful in wording, he seemingly asserted his faith in the allegations being false.

As of now, congressman Matt Gaetz does not appear to be going anywhere. With the explicit declarations of him refusing to resign from congress, the only thing the American people are to do is wait and see what truth or lies spark from this instance, and what it will mean to the American people.
