AOC’s New Criticism
By Caleigh Calvey
Infamous Social Democrat and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is once again facing backlash for an accent she used at an Al Sharpton conference, as well as her assumption of selected careers.
Ocasio-Cortez admitted she was proud of her past as a bartender, saying “there’s nothing wrong with that”. Then, Ocasio-Cortez said nothing is wrong with working in retail, working as a cook, and as a bus driver. Ocasio-Cortez said all of this in an accent that some have compared to a “southern drawl”
Ocasio-Cortez has been criticized by conservatives as well as African-Americans for the fake accent, some have even called her out saying using the accent was racist, as well as a presumption that African-Americans are “illiterate and uneducated”. The choice of jobs she said has also been criticized, saying it is another racist assumption that African-Americans do not work well paying jobs.
While nothing is wrong with being a bartender, and the other jobs Ocasio-Cortez mentioned, using a fake accent to seem more relatable, as well as the mention of the jobs that have been used as a form of degradation to the race for generations asinine. Once again AOC is proving herself to be an unworthy member of Congress.
